Purchase your CRBN FP PWR Insert kit here!

Doug: What you doing Joel??

Joel: Well we have the new carbon FP PWR inserts guys and we are here to do some testing on this thing.  So these inserts have been out for a little bit of time they retail for a price point of $299.95.  They come with all the different sizes from 0.679 to 0.691 in 0.002 increments.  So we talked to carbon about these at World Cup.  They've been out for probably like a month or two now and we still haven't done testing on it, so here we are!

I've got the regular Planet Eclipse PWR inserts here and we've got a used Infamous CS2 with the S63 barrel system that we are going to use for our testing on this thing.  Basically,  the concept here guys is that the friction coefficient of the CRBN FP PWR inserts should be less because of the fluoro polymer coating that they put on the insert.  So players should be able to lower your operating pressure of your paintball gun which will lead to better efficiency out of the inserts.

So, with that said we are going to take these outside and test them.  We've got some GI four star paintballs here to try and get a general idea of does it work or does it not work. Does it improve FPS does not improve FPS?  If it improves FPS that means you're going to be able to turn your velocity down which is going to help with efficiency and all that stuf.  If you get proper bore sizing with it then it should definitely help with efficiency.

Doug: What do you think maybe consistency too from shot to shot?

Joel: That's going to, in my opinion, that always depends more on the gun and it depends on like the regulator, the gun, the temperature, and the paint more so than the inserts. So the big thing here in my opinion is overall efficiency.  Being able to you know get that paintball out with less work basically.  So with that said, Doug let's go outside and shoot this thing!!

Joel: Boom! all right guys, we are outside and I apologize for the noise and the overcast weather but unfortunately we're here in Ohio and we got to deal with it. It's only 4:00 o'clock here and it's like dark outside but anyways we are here to test these FP PWR inserts.  We've got the infamous CS2 that I was speaking about and we already bore sized the paint.  We've got a 0.689 insert from Planet Eclipse with the GI 4 star paintballs. We will take a total of 10 shots and get the average FPS with the regular PE PWR insert.

277, 286, 290, 282, 281, 271, 280, 285, 289, 293, 290 so our lowest was 271 FPS and our highest was 293 FPS with an average of 284 FPS.

So now we're going to keep everything rolling here to show you guys that I'm not changing anything.  We are using the same paint, HPR set exactly the same way, and now we're now going to take our carbon FP insert kit out and undo it here.  It comes in a really nice packaging that's super cool

Doug: Honestly, kind of looks like they're trying to copycat the hormesis thing.

Joel: Yeah well and you know Infamous has their take on in as well so here's the 89 and wow I can definitely tell the inside is definitely like really slippery.  They have a pretty good presentation and you know nice laser engraved on the outside there so we're going to slide up 89 in here oops so take previous one out just a side comment I like the color on all of them I don't know it just looks nice yeah yeah I mean it's it's really nice insert you know something to keep in mind is like if you buy that try and buy that many inserts by themselves it's still going to be like 200 something bucks cuz this is $300 for the kit.  You're still going to be at a pretty hefty price tag cuz each regular insert is $25.  In this kit, you've got 7 inerts so 7 x $25 is 175 bucks.

So the question is, is it worth the extra 100 bucks if you're getting better efficiency and that's what we're here to actually test out so spending less paint to shoot people if you're shooting them first...

278, 274, 282, 293, 270, 277, 272, 287, 273, 280, 283, 271, 271, 272

Doug: We are getting way tighter groupings out of that every fourth or fifth is way high.

Overall, we got an average FPS of the 14 shots of 277.4 FPS with the CRBN FP PWR insert kit which actually makes it lower than the regular PE PWR inserts.

After more testing, we decided that something seemed not right with the regulator of the Infamous CS2 so we decided to re-film the test with Doug's Shocker Era and average both insert kits over 10 shots to determine the average FPS again.

286, 285, 286, 292, 304, 304, 293, 301, 283

Average FPS = 293.50 FPS with the stock insert from Planet Eclipse with the 0.689 insert.

So I'm going keep the gun live and put in the carbon FP power insert...

286, 274, 290, 285, 298, 272, 281, 291, 293, 294

Average FPS = 286.4 FPS

Joel: Now Doug that's basically with the testing that we did with the infamous CS2 was the same situation but we just it averaged lower right yeah it averaged lower the reason why we discontinue it wasn't because it average lower it was because we we just thought jumps yeah we had a few a few jumps on FPS but none of those were too there was one that was in the 270s right yeah yeah but overall it seems solid.

So there you guys have it that is a difference of what 7 average FPS difference in fps which is a a 2.4% drop in velocity between the stock PE inserts compared to the CRBN FP inserts.

OUR THOUGHTS:

There are definitely a few variables with this test that we didn't anticipate until after we shot the video.  For that reason, we are going to be doing another test with the FP PWR insert kit.  For one, a few people pointed out that since the friction is less you should be able to downsize the insert which should help with a tighter fit and may help with being able to lower your HPR on your paintball gun.  Another factor to consider is that our markers were both relatively inconsistent which could be due to paintball quality.  We were using GI 4 star paintballs which usually is a great quality ball and shouldn't be a problem. However, we want to refilm the test and will use a different ball to see if we can replicate the same results (the PE PWR inserts were higher velocity than the FP PWR inserts from CRBN paintball).

Would this deter us from buying the kit?  Not really.  You are spending a premium to get this insert kit but we do like the 7 inserts that allow for every bore size possible.  You also get a nice insert case that rolls up easy and can be stored easily into your gearbag for traveling.  We really want this concept to work and will be interested to see what our test results yield when we re-test with a smaller CRBN FP Pwr insert along with different paintballs.  Stay tuned!

I was also wondering if the reduced friction in the FP inserts would allow you to ‘go down a size’. I would say when sizing your inserts, take the same batch of 5-7 balls and find the best FP insert and non-FP insert. THEN do a side by side comparison with the same marker and tank.

P.S. I do enjoy your comparison videos.
